Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kenya safe for digital nomads?
Nairobi is generally safe in expat neighborhoods like Westlands and Kilimani, where most co-working spaces and international communities are located. Exercise standard urban precautions, particularly at night, and avoid certain areas.
Will I pay Kenyan tax?
If you stay more than 183 days in a calendar year, you are considered a Kenyan tax resident and must file taxes. Progressive rates range from 10–30%. Many nomads plan shorter stays or split their time between Kenya and other countries.
What is the cost of living in Nairobi?
Nairobi is more expensive than most African cities but still affordable compared to Western standards. A comfortable lifestyle costs around $1,500–$2,500 per month, including rent in a nice neighborhood, food, and entertainment.
